Seaplane Experiences

Every Seaplane Experience

Days built around what a floatplane can do: land on water, wait and take off again from a sandbar, a cay or alongside a yacht. Available from every Florida departure point and from the Bahamas.

Planning a Seaplane Experience Day

An experience is a reason to fly rather than a place to fly to. The aircraft is the same, the paperwork is the same and what changes is the shape of the day: where the aircraft puts down, how long it waits and whether it is the way there or the whole point.

Several of these only exist because a floatplane can land on water. A sandbar day, a rendezvous alongside a yacht, a picnic on a cay with no runway and a flats session all begin with a water landing and each one is planned around wind, sea state and tide rather than a departure board.

Others use the aircraft as a room with a view. Photography flights and coastal flights are flown low and slow along the reef line and a dining flight is simply a short crossing with a table at the other end.

Questions

Seaplane Experience Questions, Answered

Where can a seaplane land in the Bahamas and the Florida Keys?

A seaplane lands on protected water: harbours, sheltered bays, lee shores, marina basins and, where permitted, alongside a yacht or a dock. The exact site depends on wind, sea state, tide and local rules, so our flight planners confirm the landing point close to departure and always brief an alternative. Where water access is not appropriate on the day, we move the arrival to a nearby site or to a runway and arrange the ground transfer.

Do I need a passport for a seaplane charter to the Bahamas?

Yes. The Bahamas is an international crossing, so every passenger needs a valid passport and any visa their nationality requires and children need their own documents. We file the inbound and outbound paperwork, confirm the port of entry and send a document checklist once the booking is confirmed. Guidance for each nationality is set out on our travel documents page and the charter desk will review your party before the day.

How much luggage can I bring on a seaplane charter?

Floatplanes are weight and volume sensitive, so luggage is planned rather than assumed. Soft bags load far better than hard cases and the usable allowance depends on the aircraft, the number of passengers, the fuel required and the conditions. We agree your allowance before the flight and will tell you early if the load plan needs adjusting. The confirmed allowance for your party is stated on your charter agreement.

What happens if weather stops a seaplane flight?

Water operations depend on wind and sea state as well as visibility, so a departure can move even on a clear day. We watch the forecast from the day before, contact you as soon as a change looks likely and offer a revised time, an alternative landing site or a different aircraft. Where a trip cannot be flown safely, the flight is rescheduled or refunded according to the terms of your charter agreement. Safety decisions rest with the operator and the pilot in command.

Can a seaplane charter be booked for the same day?

Often yes for Florida legs and sometimes for the Bahamas, but international crossings need customs notification and a confirmed port of entry, which sets a practical limit on how late a booking can be made. Aircraft availability in season is the other constraint. The fastest route is to send the date, the two ends of the trip and your passenger count to the charter desk and a flight planner will tell you within the hour what is possible.

Can I bring a pet on a seaplane charter?

Yes, pets travel in the cabin with you. The one thing we ask is that you tell us at the enquiry, with the type of animal and its weight, so the seating and the load plan are right from the start.
