Up the Coast

Small Plane Flights Miami to Daytona Beach

Daytona Beach has its own airport three miles from the middle of town, and it is a large one. Daytona Beach International carries the identifier DAB and three asphalt runways, the longest of them 10,500 feet. A small charter plane needs a fraction of that, so this route is one of the simplest we fly up the Florida coast.

The distance is 207 nautical miles and almost every one of them is coastline. You leave Miami over the beach, follow the barrier islands north past the inlets and the cape, and the Halifax comes up under the wing before the runway does.

That is around an hour in the air against something close to five hours on the interstate. The exact block time depends on the aircraft and the departure point and it comes back with the quote.

Everything between those two moments is ours: the departure point in Miami, the aircraft, the crew, the flight plan and the car waiting on the ramp when you land. Your party brings a bag and turns up half an hour before.

Both ends of this one are in Florida. It is one of several Small Plane routes from the city. Where a guest would rather come down on the river beside the town than on the runway outside it, the same trip is flown by seaplane instead, which is a different aircraft and a different page.

How It Works

How a Small Plane Charter Miami to Daytona Beach Actually Works

Both ends of this route are in Florida, which takes the whole subject of paperwork off the table before it comes up. Nothing has to be filed on your behalf except the flight plan.

The short version: you arrive at a general aviation ramp in Miami, you fly up the coast, you land at Daytona, and the car is on the apron beside the aircraft.

Plan Your Daytona Beach Charter

The Runway

The runway at Daytona Beach is longer than anything this aircraft needs

Daytona Beach International runs three asphalt strips. The main one, 07L/25R, is 10,500 feet, the crosswind 16/34 is 6,001 and the short parallel 07R/25L is 3,195. A small small plane uses a fraction of the shortest of them.

The field sits three miles southwest of the middle of Daytona Beach and about four from the sand, with the Speedway on the other side of the fence.

The Apron

A charter parks on the general aviation ramp, not at the airline gate

Daytona Beach International carries scheduled traffic as well, and a charter never touches that building. The aircraft stops where the car can reach it, the bags come off onto the ramp and the sand is about four miles east. That is the reason a Daytona day trip can start later and still work.

Leaving Miami

Leaving Miami on a charter is a ramp rather than a terminal

The aircraft departs from a general aviation ramp, so you arrive at the departure point close to the boarding time rather than two hours before it. There is no check-in desk, no security queue and no gate. Park, walk out, get in. The field the crew files from follows where you are actually coming from, not a fixed base we prefer.

The Last Mile

Getting from the Daytona apron to the sand is a short drive, not a journey

The airport is on the west side of town and the beach is on the east side of it, about four miles apart with the Halifax in between. There is no concourse to walk and no baggage hall to wait in, so the car booked with the flight is standing where the aircraft parks. For most parties the drive is under fifteen minutes.

Weather

Weather closes water before it closes a paved runway at Daytona

A rough morning on the Halifax can make a water landing a bad idea while an asphalt strip is entirely unbothered. That is the practical argument for wheels on this coast in winter and it is the reason we quote both. What the aircraft needs on the day is a crew decision, taken against published minimums, never a preference.

The Block

The small plane waits, which is what makes a Daytona day trip a day trip

On a charter the airframe is yours for the block, so the return is set by you rather than by a timetable. Guests who want a night on the coast tell us at the enquiry and the crew and the aircraft are planned around it. Nothing about the day is shared with anybody else's schedule.

Departure Points

Departure Points for Small Plane Flights to Daytona Beach from Miami

A small plane uses short fields that a jet cannot, so the departure point is chosen for your ground time. These are the four we use around Miami. Select one to see exactly where it sits.

Miami Executive

Miami Executive Airport, TMB, Kendall

Kendall-Tamiami in the south west of the county and the field both small planes sit at, the land aircraft and the amphibian. A charter that starts here starts without a positioning leg, which is what decides an early morning on a same day return. It is also the shortest drive from the south and west of the county.

How to Charter

Charter a Small Plane from Miami to Daytona Beach

Chartering an aircraft is not booking a seat. There are four steps, and only the first one is yours.

Plan Your Daytona Beach Charter
  1. 01

    Contact Us

Write to us on WhatsApp or by email. Send your dates, how many guests, where you are coming from and where you want to travel. Tell us the hour you would like to leave. A small plane runs airport to airport. Your pickup can also be a marina, a hotel dock or a beach. With a seaplane we can collect you there.

  2. 02

    Get Aircraft and Prices Back

We check what is free on your date and send the small planes that fit. Seats, baggage and flight time for each one. Every aircraft costs a little differently, so we can find the best fit for you.

  3. 03

    Confirm and Pay

You pick the aircraft, and we set the departure point and which of the four strips around Daytona you land on. Then everything around the flight.

Catering on board, a car waiting where the aircraft parks, ground transport to your hotel or back to the airport. Flowers if the day is a special one. You approve it, you pay, and your boarding time, departure point and everything included come back to you.

  4. 04

    Just Arrive 30 Minutes Early

You will have no terminal and no queue. Just make sure you are there 30 minutes before. Then you take off, land right at your destination, and enjoy the day.

Where a Miami to Daytona Beach Small Plane Puts You Down

The aircraft puts you on the ramp at Daytona Beach International, three miles southwest of the middle of town and four from the sand, with the Speedway on the other side of the fence. Everything below is reached from that apron, and on this route the first step of the day is a car rather than a boat.

What follows is what parties actually do with the hours in between, in the order they ask for it.

Daytona Beach International and the Ramp

Where You Land
A single engine small plane on wheels in flight over a reef line and a built up stretch of coast

Three asphalt runways, the longest of them 10,500 feet, a tower and a general aviation ramp. The crosswind strip 16/34 runs 6,001 feet and the short parallel 07R/25L 3,195, so there is a usable surface here in almost any wind this coast produces.

The field sits three miles southwest of the middle of town, which is closer in than most airports of that size manage. There is no concourse to walk and no baggage hall to wait in: you step off the aircraft onto the apron and the car is standing there.

Nothing has to be cleared, because nothing was crossed. Miami and Daytona Beach are both in Florida, so the whole leg is domestic and the only filing on it is the flight plan. That is the part guests who fly our island routes notice first.

In Detail

Small Plane Miami to Daytona Beach: The Runway, the Speedway and the Sand

Everything above is the day. What follows is the detail behind it: the strips at the far end, the coast you fly to get there, and what charter and private actually change about a flight up the Florida coast.

Miami to Daytona Beach by Small Plane: The Coastal Crossing and Daytona Beach

207 nautical miles up the coast from Miami to the Halifax River

The crossing is not dead time between two airports. A small plane crosses low enough to see what is under it, so the water is part of the day rather than something to sit through. The distance is 207 nautical miles and almost every one of them is coastline. From there it is a straight run north over the dunes to the Halifax, and Daytona announces itself the way it does from nowhere else: a pale band of hard sand twenty-three miles long with the surf on one edge of it and the town on the other. Three of the four sit well inside the county, which is the part that decides how early the morning starts: a field twenty minutes from the house is worth more than five minutes of flight time saved in the air. Every seat is a window seat on an aircraft this size, and the same is true of scenic flights of this size, so nobody watches the crossing over someone's shoulder. Other small plane routes from Miami fly the same way.

Small Plane to Daytona Beach from Miami: You Decide the Departure Time

Your hour, your names and a small plane to Daytona Beach

Nobody hands you a timetable on a charter. The day is built around the hour you name. You name the hour you want to lift off, the hour you want to be standing on Daytona Beach and which water in the city suits your morning. The aircraft belongs to your party for the day, so all three are your decision rather than a departure somebody else set, and a change the week before is a message to us. If the drive is shorter the other way, the same day runs out of Fort Lauderdale. Half an hour before the lift-off is the whole of the check-in. Your party walks from the car to the aircraft, the bags go on in front of you, and the list for that flight carries your names and nobody else's. Nothing about the morning waits on a stranger. And the crossing is a reason in itself. The windows are deep and the aircraft crosses low, so there is room for everybody to sit and watch the water change instead of taking turns at one of them.

Small Plane Charter to Daytona Beach from Miami: Nothing to File, Nothing to Carry

No customs and no check-in desk on a Daytona Beach charter

A small plane from Miami to Daytona Beach stays inside Florida, so there is no border to clear and no paperwork anybody has to file. The flight never leaves the country, so there is no declaration, no port of entry and no passport check at either end. Your party needs photo identification and nothing more. Everything around the flight is settled from our side before your party arrives, from the slot at both ends to the handling on the ramp. A domestic leg has no paperwork in it, so the only things left to arrange are the two ends, and those are ours. The same aircraft is there for the return, so nothing is checked in, claimed or checked in again on the way home. Your party walks from the car to the aircraft and the bags go on in front of you. What may travel sits in the baggage guidance. A departure moved by weather runs under the weather and delays policy, and a name added or dropped before the flight is a message to us rather than a problem for you.

Small Plane Miami Daytona Beach: Milestone Days and Florida Weekends

A day trip, a weekend or something to celebrate on Daytona Beach

A private small plane from Miami to Daytona Beach is booked when the day is worth marking: a birthday, a proposal, a graduation, a weekend away with the people who matter. The flight is short enough that the occasion, not the travelling, is what the day is about. That is what a small plane Miami Daytona Beach charter is for. Three of the four sit well inside the county, which is the part that decides how early the morning starts: a field twenty minutes from the house is worth more than five minutes of flight time saved in the air. Some parties fly over for the day and are home the same evening. Others stay on and book the return for the day they want. Both are the same charter, and the whole group travels together on one booking. If there is something to celebrate, say so when you book: catering, a private chef, premium beverages and flowers travel with you. Everything is in place before you board in Miami.

Questions

Small Plane Charter Miami to Daytona Beach: Questions Answered

Can a plane land in Daytona Beach?

Yes, and on a choice of runways. Daytona Beach International has three asphalt strips, the longest 10,500 feet, three miles from the middle of town. Ormond Beach Municipal to the north and New Smyrna Beach Municipal to the south both take this aircraft comfortably, and Spruce Creek at Port Orange is a private 4,000-foot strip inside a residential airpark. A small charter plane fits all four.

How long is the flight from Miami to Daytona Beach?

The distance is 207 nautical miles up the coast, which puts it around an hour in the air on the aircraft we fly this route with.

The block time depends on the airframe and which Miami field you leave from and it is confirmed with the boarding time before you book. The comparison worth making is the drive, which is close to five hours on the interstate.

Can we fly up for a race weekend?

Yes, and it is one of the main reasons this route gets chartered at all. The field is beside the Speedway, so the ground leg on a race day is short where every other way in is not. Those dates fill early on the aircraft as well, so the sooner your dates are with us the more there is to choose from.

Where does the flight land in Daytona Beach?

Usually at Daytona Beach International, on the west side of town beside the Speedway and about four miles from the sand. There is no concourse and no baggage hall: you walk off the aircraft onto the ramp and the car booked with the flight is standing there.

If the day is happening at the north or south end of the beach, Ormond Beach or New Smyrna Beach may be the shorter drive.

Can you take a day trip from Miami to Daytona Beach?

Easily, and it is the most common way this route is flown. An hour up in the morning and an hour back in the evening leaves a full day on the coast, which the drive does not.

On a charter the aircraft is held for your block, so the return is set by you rather than by a timetable. Tell us at the enquiry if you would rather stay a night.

Is it worth flying to Daytona Beach for a race weekend?

That is when the difference is largest. On race and rally weekends the roads into town are the slowest part of the trip, and the airport sits immediately beside the Speedway rather than an hour out of it. You land, you get in a car, you are there. Book those dates early: the whole coast fills up around them and aircraft availability goes with it.

How much baggage can we take on a small plane?

It is a weight question rather than a bag count. A small aircraft trades payload against passengers and fuel, so four guests with boards and camera cases and four with overnight bags are different aircraft. Say what is coming at the enquiry, including clubs, boards and anything with a battery in it, and the answer comes back with the quote rather than at the ramp.

Can we land inside Spruce Creek?

Subject to permission from the airpark, yes. Spruce Creek at Port Orange is a private 4,000-foot paved strip inside a gated community of around 1,300 homes, with about fourteen miles of taxiway connecting the houses to the runway. Guests staying inside it can be set down where they are sleeping. Mention it at the enquiry, because it is arranged in advance rather than on the day.

What is the difference between the small plane and the seaplane to Daytona Beach?

Where you end up and what the weather can do to it. A small plane lands on asphalt at one of four fields around the town and is dependable in conditions the water is not. A seaplane comes down on the Halifax River beside the town itself and skips the drive from the airport. We quote the two against each other rather than selling one.

What happens if the weather is bad on the day of the Daytona Beach flight?

A paved runway tolerates a great deal that a water landing does not, which is the main practical argument for this aircraft on this coast in winter. If conditions are genuinely below minimums the crew moves or stands down the flight and the weather and delays policy says what that means for your booking. That call is the crew's, made against published limits, never a preference.

Is it cheaper than a scheduled flight?

No, and it is not trying to be. A scheduled seat is cheaper because somebody else chose the time and the aircraft is shared. Charter buys the block: your departure, your return, your party only, your load. On a day trip that usually means several more usable hours on the coast, which is the comparison worth making rather than fare against fare.

Can we fly on to Orlando or the space coast afterwards?

Yes, and both are short legs from Daytona. Orlando is around fifty-six road miles inland and a few minutes by air, the space coast a little further south along the same shoreline. Because the whole trip is domestic there is nothing to clear between legs. Tell us the shape of the trip at the enquiry and it is quoted as one movement.

Can I bring a pet on a small plane charter?

Yes, pets travel in the cabin with you. The one thing we ask is that you tell us at the enquiry, with the type of animal and its weight, so the seating and the load plan are right from the start.
