Seaplane Charter Flights Fort Lauderdale: What Every Flight Includes
A charter out of Fort Lauderdale is made of six parts, in the order a party meets them. Each one is settled for you before the date, from the first message to boarding.
Plan Your Seaplane CharterDistance and Water
Twenty Minutes in the Air to the Nearest Bahamian Shore
The nearest Bahamian shore is Bimini, 51 nautical miles east, about twenty minutes aloft. Freeport follows at 81 miles, Nassau at 164 and Marsh Harbour at 167, while Islamorada lies 77 miles south. All of these are minutes in the air, not door to door, and each crossing is tabled on all seaplane routes.
The Whole Aircraft
One Party, One Aircraft, a Manifest of Your Names
Up to eight seats, all of them yours. Nobody joins the manifest, you name the hour, and the aircraft waits where it put you down until you want to go home. A party too large for one plane flies in two, and the types are on the seaplanes page.
Where the Aircraft Sets Down
Sheltered Water at Both Ends, Approved
On this coast the Intracoastal and its inlets provide the calm water, and the operator picks the stretch for your date and the wind. Across the Gulf Stream each Bahamian landing site must first be approved by the Civil Aviation Authority. The water landing guide explains the process.
Both Borders
Passports and Both Borders Filed Before the Date
Each passenger needs a valid passport, children included, because a driving licence is not accepted for a Bahamas arrival. We receive names, party size, pickup and hour in advance and file both the Bahamian declaration and the American return ourselves. The travel documents guidance lists what is accepted.
On Board and Ashore
Provisions, Celebrations and What the Aircraft Can Carry
Plan on 230 pounds per passenger plus one soft bag of twenty pounds per seat. Catering and a private chef are loaded at the dock rather than searched for on the island, and a birthday or proposal joins the booking as a custom experience.
How Long the Day Runs
Out and Back Before Dark, or a Weekend Away
Water landings are allowed from half an hour after sunrise to half an hour before sunset. Bimini and Freeport fit into one day with hours ashore, while the farther cays begin with a stop at a port of entry, so those days start early and the customs desk, more than the daylight, sets the hour. The Abaco cays show how far a weekend can reach.
Departure Points
Departure Points for a Seaplane Rental in Fort Lauderdale
Two airports in Broward County are confirmed with our operator partners, and the water side is settled for your date.
Fort Lauderdale Executive (FXE)
The business aviation field north of the city and the base our partner Tropic Air Charters names for Fort Lauderdale. It has its own Federal Inspection Station, so a party coming home from the Bahamas lands, clears and leaves from one apron. For most guests staying along Las Olas or the New River it is the shorter drive.
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood (FLL)
The airline airport south of the city, which flyExclusive names alongside FXE for a seaplane charter, chosen by availability on the day. Our partner Aztec Airways runs a private terminal there. It suits a party arriving by airline that wants to step from one aircraft to the next without crossing town.
On the Water
Which dock or stretch of water a seaplane may use around Fort Lauderdale is the operator's decision for your date and the wind, so this page names none. Send the marina, the hotel or the house on the canal, and the dock pickup is checked before anything is quoted.
How to Charter
Rent a Seaplane in Fort Lauderdale: How to Book
From the first message to the dock there are four steps, and only the first one needs anything from you.
Plan Your Seaplane Charter- 01
Contact Us
Send us a WhatsApp message or an email with your dates, the number of guests, where the morning begins and the island you have in mind. Tell us the hour you would like to leave.
Say too whether you will be collected from a canal-side house, a hotel dock or an airport, since a seaplane starts from water as well as from runways and the pilots check what the water there allows.
- 02
Get Aircraft and Prices Back
Within your dates we see which seaplanes are available and send back the ones that suit the party, listing seats, baggage allowance and block time for each. Because every aircraft is priced differently, you see the choices and the cost before any deposit is asked.
- 03
Confirm and Pay
Pick the aircraft and we settle the pickup and the landing site. The additions come next, built around the flight: catering on board, a car waiting when you land, ground transport to the hotel, flowers for a special day. Once you approve and pay, the boarding time, the departure point and everything included reach you.
- 04
Just Arrive 30 Minutes Early
Reach the departure point half an hour before boarding. After that the plan carries you: board, take off and land where it says.
Where It Lands
Where a Seaplane from Fort Lauderdale Sets You Down
From Fort Lauderdale the first question is how much of the day you want to spend in the air. Bimini and Freeport are the short answers, Nassau and the Abaco cays the middle one, Eleuthera and the Exumas the long one, and each ends on water instead of tarmac.
Plan Your Seaplane CharterBimini
The Nearest ShoreBimini lies on the very edge of the Gulf Stream. The harbour is small enough to walk around, nobody needs a car, and it is the quickest way to put the Bahamas under the wings. From Fort Lauderdale it is 51 nautical miles, a flight of about twenty minutes. The seaplane base on North Bimini is a port of entry in itself, which means the floats are cleared on arrival and nothing interrupts the crossing. Guests staying around Biscayne Bay can take the shorter hop from the seaplane hub in Miami, while anyone based in Broward County leaves from here. What there is to do on the island has its own Bimini page.
Grand Bahama and Freeport
The Island DayFreeport gives a full island day for a short flight: lunch at Port Lucaya Marketplace, the fish fry on Taino Beach and live music on Count Basie Square after dark. The distance from Fort Lauderdale is 81 nautical miles, about thirty five minutes in the air. Grand Bahama International is an airport of entry with customs on site, so the first landing clears there and the party moves on freely. A morning departure leaves the afternoon for the harbour and the beach, and the same trip stretches into a long weekend. The island has a Grand Bahama destination page and the city a Freeport page.
Nassau and Paradise Island
The CapitalNassau suits a party that cannot agree on the day. The harbour front has the streets and restaurants, and Paradise Island across the bridge has the pools. It is 164 nautical miles from Fort Lauderdale, about an hour and five minutes in the air. Nassau is a port of entry, so the first landing clears here, and from here parties carry on into the chain. For a mixed group it is the easiest place to split up for the afternoon and meet again at dinner. The city has the Nassau page and the resort side the Atlantis page. The crossing itself is written out under seaplane flights from Fort Lauderdale to Nassau.
Harbour Island and Eleuthera
Pink SandHarbour Island offers pink sand and a village that can be crossed on foot. By seaplane the usual chain of taxi and water taxi from North Eleuthera disappears, and the luggage goes from the aircraft straight to the house. North Eleuthera is 191 nautical miles away, about an hour and a quarter. Harbour Island has no customs desk, so the clearance happens at North Eleuthera and the island follows a few minutes later. The flight has its own write-up under seaplane flights from Fort Lauderdale to Harbour Island, and the island guide is the Harbour Island page.
Marsh Harbour and Hope Town
The Abaco HubMarsh Harbour is the gateway to the Abacos: the ferries, a deep harbour and the Sea of Abaco all begin here. Twenty minutes across the water lies Hope Town, where a red and white striped lighthouse from 1863 is still wound by hand. The distance is 167 nautical miles, roughly an hour and five minutes aloft. Because Marsh Harbour is itself a port of entry, customs is dealt with on landing and the outer cays sit just beyond. A night in Hope Town makes the ferry the simple part of the trip. Both places have their own page, Marsh Harbour and Hope Town, and a boat that meets the aircraft is booked as a yacht transfer.
Treasure Cay and Green Turtle Cay
Cays on the Sea of AbacoOn Great Abaco, Treasure Cay offers a long beach, a marina and a golf course, while Green Turtle Cay is a small settlement on its own island, reached from there by boat. Both are served by one crossing. Treasure Cay is 152 nautical miles from Fort Lauderdale and Green Turtle Cay 156, about an hour in the air. The cay has an airport of its own, and the first Bahamian landing is cleared at a port of entry before the party carries on. It is a long morning rather than a short hop, which is why most guests plan a night on the cay. More on Treasure Cay and Green Turtle Cay.
Walker's Cay
The Northern EdgeWalker's Cay is the most northerly island in the Bahamas, under a hundred acres, inside its own barrier reef and a national park. Sport fishing put it on the map in the 1930s, and the marina has reopened. It lies 116 nautical miles away, about forty five minutes in the air. The cay is a port of entry, but customs there works by invitation and appointment only, so the clearance is arranged before the date and nothing interrupts the crossing. Divers go for the reef and its sharks, anglers for the water outside it, and the cay rewards a short, quiet day more than a long one. Read more on the Walker's Cay page.
Berry Islands and Chub Cay
Quiet BanksThe Berry Islands are around thirty islands and over a hundred cays strung along the Great Bahama Bank, next to a trench about six thousand feet deep. That depth is why anglers call the group the billfish capital of the country. Chub Cay is 129 nautical miles from Fort Lauderdale, about fifty minutes in the air, and Great Harbour Cay 123. Chub Cay's airstrip has customs and immigration offices, and both the marina and the airport at Great Harbour Cay are ports of entry. The group has its own page, the Berry Islands, with one each for Chub Cay and Great Harbour Cay.
Everywhere Else We Arrange Flights
Same AircraftThese are the places guests ask about first, not the limit of the list. The Keys and the Exumas are reachable as well, though they make longer days from here: Islamorada lies 77 nautical miles away, Key West 129 and Staniel Cay in the Exumas 233. Every distance is tabled on all seaplane routes, and a day that hops between cays is island hopping. The Keys have their own Florida Keys seaplane page. Where a runway fits the day better we say so and suggest a small plane from Fort Lauderdale instead.

In Detail
Seaplane Charter from Fort Lauderdale: The Reef Line, the Gulf Stream and a Dock Instead of a Terminal
Above, the page sets out the day itself. Below, four blocks go underneath it: what the window shows, how the hour is settled, the paperwork we carry and the occasions people book a seaplane for. All of it belongs to any flight to the Bahamas.
Fort Lauderdale is also the largest yacht centre in North America, which gives the first block a second reason to start on the water.
Other aircraft leave from here too: a helicopter charter, a small plane charter and a private jet charter are all available from Fort Lauderdale, and the seaplane docks in Miami and West Palm Beach reach the same islands from either side.
Seaplane Taxi Fort Lauderdale: Flying Low Over the Reef
The Reef Line First, Then the Blue of the Stream
The first minutes are the best ones: the canals fall away, the beach line narrows, and the reef shows up below the floats. Leaving Broward County the aircraft climbs out over a coast that is all water and boats, then passes the reef line running close to the beach. Beyond it the shelf drops into the Gulf Stream and the colour turns from sand and green to the dark blue of deep water. On the far side the Little Bahama Bank returns as pale green flats, and that sequence, reef, stream, bank, is the whole crossing in colour. It is why a scenic flight is sometimes the entire booking, and why the best seat is the one at the window on a clear morning. An airliner shows none of it from its altitude. Say at the enquiry if the view is the point, since the operator picks the hour with the light in mind. The seaplanes page and all seaplane routes describe the aircraft and the crossings, and a cay with no runway turns a landing into a beach picnic.
Private Seaplane Charter Fort Lauderdale: You Name the Hour
One Named Hour and an Aircraft That Waits
Nobody else is on the manifest, so the departure hour is whichever one you name. Nobody else is on the manifest, so the hour is whichever one you name: a late breakfast first, an early departure for the water at first light, or a long lunch that simply pushes the way home back. The aircraft stays with your party the whole time, which is why an afternoon that overruns still ends on the same flight home. Around Fort Lauderdale the roads matter as much as the sky, because the in-water boat show fills the marinas and the causeways with traffic, and leaving before or after it is a real decision. The departure points around Broward County are chosen to suit your ground time, and the return is planned against the daylight left. Staying a night changes the plan but not the aircraft. In summer the afternoons are the hours that move, so a firm homecoming means an early start. A party too big for one aircraft flies in two, agreed ahead of the date, and baggage is counted in pounds, as the baggage guidance sets out.
Seaplane Rental in Fort Lauderdale: Both Borders Filed
Passports in Hand, Both Filings on Our Side
A day in the Bahamas crosses two borders, and on this charter the filing sits on our side of the desk. Crossing to the Bahamas and back means two borders in one day, and on this charter the filing is our job rather than yours. The Bahamian declaration is submitted from Florida before you leave, the aircraft clears at a port of entry on landing, and the American return is filed with United States Customs ahead of the flight home. Freeport, Marsh Harbour and Walker's Cay each have a customs desk, and where an island has none the clearing stop becomes part of the plan. The Bahamas expects arrivals to be cleared online before the flight, so passport names and the itinerary reach us days earlier. Desks keep hours from 09:00 to 17:30, which means the desk sets the crossing time more than the flight does. Every passenger is named on the filing, so a late addition is handled before the date and never at the dock. At the end of the day Fort Lauderdale Executive, with its own Federal Inspection Station, takes care of the American side. Entry rules are in the travel documents guidance, delays under the weather and delays policy and what may travel in the baggage guidance.
Rent a Seaplane in Fort Lauderdale: Milestones and Weekends
Birthdays, Proposals and Quiet Weekends on the Cays
People hire a seaplane when the day outweighs the fare: a first morning over the reef, a proposal where no road reaches, a captain waiting with the boat. The usual reasons are a milestone, a proposal or a weekend that deserves more than a ferry. You choose the hour and how long you stay. If a yacht is waiting offshore the aircraft comes alongside it as a yacht transfer, which in this yacht capital often makes the most natural end to a flight. A proposal or milestone moves the flight home into the best light, a private chef or catering turns lunch into an occasion, and a wedding or an elopement moves the aircraft instead of the guests. Flying back as a sunset flight makes the return the part people remember. Smaller occasions use the same machinery: flowers waiting at the dock, a table set on a sandbar, a late lunch ashore. One night on a cay makes the flight a weekend, because the farther cays reward a slow morning and a long lunch before the way home. Even a same-day trip leaves the afternoon ashore, so a Bahamas day trip and a weekend share the aircraft and the filings. Tell us what the day is for when you send the dates, because the occasion shapes the hour more than the distance does.
Questions
Seaplane Charter Fort Lauderdale: Questions Answered
How long is a seaplane flight from Fort Lauderdale?
Bimini is the short one at 51 nautical miles, about twenty minutes in the air, and Freeport follows at 81 miles and about thirty five. Nassau is 164 miles at roughly an hour and five, Marsh Harbour 167 at the same, and North Eleuthera 191 at about an hour and a quarter.
Going south, Islamorada is about half an hour and Key West about fifty minutes. These are air times, and the block time comes with the boarding time.
Do I need a passport for a seaplane trip from Fort Lauderdale?
Anywhere in the Bahamas, yes: the flight crosses a border, so each person aboard needs a passport that is still valid, babies too.
Names and passport numbers are collected when you book, and we prepare both border filings from them well before the day. A trip to the Keys never leaves the United States, and a photo ID is all it needs.
Which water can a seaplane use around Fort Lauderdale?
Around Fort Lauderdale the candidates are the Intracoastal Waterway and the wider canals, but the operator decides which stretch the floats can use on your date, depending on the wind and the traffic on the water.
We confirm that with the quote instead of promising it earlier. Bahamian rules are firmer: every water landing site needs written permission from the Civil Aviation Authority, and we obtain it ahead of the date.
Where does a seaplane charter leave from in Fort Lauderdale?
The airports our operator partners name are Fort Lauderdale Executive and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood, and which one is used depends on availability that day. The water side is settled separately for each date. Send us the address where you are staying and we answer with the departure point and the time to be there.
How does customs work on a seaplane flight from Fort Lauderdale?
The first place you land in the Bahamas must be a port of entry, and customs desks there work between 09:00 and 17:30. Freeport, Marsh Harbour, Walker's Cay and Chub Cay each have their own desk.
For Harbour Island the clearance happens at North Eleuthera first, and Walker's Cay opens only by appointment, so that stop is arranged early. Coming back, you clear United States customs before leaving the airport, and Fort Lauderdale Executive has a Federal Inspection Station of its own. All the paperwork on both sides is ours.
Which seaplane charter flights Fort Lauderdale to the Bahamas fit into one day?
Bimini and Freeport fit most comfortably. You depart in the morning, spend the afternoon ashore and are back before dark, with the aircraft waiting where it set you down.
The clearing stop falls inside the officers' working hours, so you carry nothing extra. Nassau is possible as a long day. The Abacos and anything further are better with a night away.
What is the latest we can fly home from the Bahamas?
Water landings happen only in daylight, between half an hour after sunrise and half an hour before sunset, so every day has a hard end. In practice the Bahamian customs desk closes earlier than the light, and it is that desk that sets the homeward hour.
Both times shift with the season, so your quote states the latest departure for your date. When it is dark, an amphibian lands on a lit runway rather than on water.
How many guests can one seaplane carry from Fort Lauderdale?
The aircraft carries up to eight, and because it is chartered whole the manifest holds your party only, who also fly home together on the same plane. The number of usable seats depends on the payload once luggage is aboard, and the quote confirms it. A group above that size splits across two aircraft, arranged before the date.
Can our fishing rods, dive tanks and coolers come along?
In most cases they can. Fishing rods, dive kit and hard cases travel regularly, as part of the payload the aircraft has that day.
Weight is the limit, not the number of bags, so bulky equipment is declared at booking because it shares the payload with the passengers. Valuable gear leaving the United States can be registered with customs beforehand.
Which Bahamian islands can a seaplane reach from Fort Lauderdale?
Any island in the northern and central Bahamas that has water or a runway to land on. From Fort Lauderdale that begins with Bimini and Freeport, continues to Nassau and Paradise Island, and reaches the Abacos from Walker's Cay down to Hope Town, the Berry Islands, Harbour Island and Eleuthera.
The Exumas work as a long day or with a night away. Each landing is cleared at a port of entry first.
When is the best time of year for a seaplane trip from Fort Lauderdale?
Conditions are calmest from about December to April, when winds are lighter and the water flatter. That is also the busy season along the Broward coast, so mention a weekend on the water when you enquire. Summer flies well too, as long as the departure is in the morning, since the afternoons are what move.
Do you arrange the ground transport at the Bahamian end?
Yes. We can have a car ready as the floats touch down, a transfer on to the hotel, or a dock pickup where the aircraft ties up beside a marina or hotel dock. Name the place where the day ends and the quote includes the transfer, so nobody has to find a taxi on an unfamiliar island.
Is a seaplane taxi Fort Lauderdale flight a scheduled service?
No. A seaplane taxi flies on demand. Your party charters the whole aircraft, you name the hour, and no timetable is published at all. What you pay for is the aircraft and the time it spends waiting for you, never an individual seat, so the quote arrives with the boarding time and the full cost of the day.
What if wind or weather cancels our departure?
A float aircraft depends on wind and sea state as much as on visibility, which means a departure can shift on a day that looks flawless from the beach.
In summer the afternoons move more often than the mornings, and the calm months run roughly December to April. The operator makes the call, and since only your party is aboard, a replacement slot is agreed directly with you.
Can the seaplane pull up to a marina dock or our yacht?
Frequently, and it is the best reason to name the marina or the boat instead of only the island. Whether it works on your date comes down to the water at the far end, the tide, the clearance and the operator's review that morning, so we check it rather than promise it on a page.
If a direct set-down is out of the question, the aircraft lands at the nearest airfield and a boat or a car covers the rest, arranged with the flight.
Is it shorter to fly from Miami or Fort Lauderdale?
It depends on the island. Bimini is 49 nautical miles from Miami and 51 from here, and Freeport is the closer one from Fort Lauderdale. The right departure point is the one nearest to where you stay, so tell us where the morning starts and we pick it.
Do you also fly from Hollywood and Dania Beach?
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood is one of the two airports our partners name, so a party staying in Hollywood or Dania Beach starts there. Other fields in the area are reviewed on request, and a seaplane sets down on the water in between, so tell us where the day is built around when you send the date.
Can I bring a pet on a seaplane charter?
Yes, pets fly in the cabin with you. All we ask is that you tell us when you enquire, with the type of animal and its weight, so the seating and the load plan are right from the start.
On a float aircraft weight matters more than the carrier, because it comes out of the same payload as the luggage.
What does a private seaplane flight from Fort Lauderdale cost?
The whole aircraft is priced as one, never seat by seat. Which aircraft takes your date, how many travel once luggage is counted, and how long the plane stays on the ground for you set the figure.
The destination shapes it as well, which is why it is the first thing we ask. With those answers you receive one price that already contains the entry fees, before any payment is due.
