Water Access

Seaplane Charter Florida Keys

A seaplane lands on water, so the arrival point is a harbour, a sheltered bay or a private dock instead of an airport. The trip ends where you are staying, which removes the part most guests dread, the drive from a runway to the place they actually booked. Islands without a usable runway are reachable directly, with no ferry leg and no second transfer.

On a calm lee shore the aircraft comes in close to the beach, so a cay with nothing but sand is a arrival point like any other. If your island does have a strip, a small plane charter is often the better aircraft and we say which of the two fits before you book. The full island list sits on seaplane charter to the Bahamas and seaplane charter to the Florida Keys.

How It Works

Booking a Seaplane Charter, from Enquiry to Water Landing

  1. 01

Tell Us the Two Ends of the Trip

Send the date, the departure area and the island or dock you want to reach. Passenger count and luggage matter early, so we ask for both at the start.

  2. 02

We Plan the Route and the Water

A flight planner confirms the aircraft, the landing site, customs where the route is international and the ground or boat transfer at each end. You receive options.

  3. 03

Arrive at the Dock and Fly

Meet the crew at the water, load soft bags and depart. On the day we monitor wind and sea state and your planner stays reachable until the final leg is complete.

Destinations Reached

Islands and Harbours Reached by Seaplane Charter

Bimini

Reached by SeaplaneNurse sharks gathered in shin deep turquoise water over a pale sand bottom off Bimini

The closest Bahamian island to Florida and the most straightforward water arrival we arrange. Protected harbour water, a short walk to the marina and hotels and enough on the island for a full day without a car. Works as a day trip or a weekend. Bimini seaplane charter

In the Air

Flying Low Over the Reef and the Flats

Floatplanes fly lower and slower than a jet, so the reef line, the flats and the bridges are part of the journey instead of something under a cloud layer. Guests who have done the same crossing by ferry tend to describe the flight as the part they remember. On the shorter crossings that is about 25 minutes, Miami to Bimini and about an hour to Nassau.

Which aircraft fits depends on the group and the water at the far end. A seaplane needs a protected surface, a helicopter needs a cleared area rather than a strip and both fly the same corridor. If your group is larger than a single float aircraft carries, a helicopter charter or a second leg on a private jet into the nearest strip is the usual answer. A small plane on floats carries up to eight.

Seaplane Charter from the Florida Keys: The Reef Line, the Flats and a Dock Instead of a Terminal

The reef runs the whole length of the chain, a few hundred feet under the floats

The Keys are the one stretch of this coast with a reef along their whole length. It runs outside the chain from Key West back up towards the mainland, and a floatplane crosses it low enough that the reef line, the flats and the deeper blue outside are three different colours from the cabin rather than a line on a map.

Inside the chain the water is shallow and pale, which is the reason a floatplane belongs here at all: the islands without a runway are reachable, and the day ends at a harbour, a marina or a dock rather than at a terminal and a rental car.

The Bahamas stay in reach from here on the same day. Bimini and Nassau are flown out of the Keys as well as out of Miami, and which water makes sense is a question for the seaplane charter desk.

Seaplane Charter Florida Keys: Planning a Private Charter Across Florida and the Bahamas

A seaplane day is planned backwards from the water, not forwards from the clock

A seaplane changes the shape of a Florida itinerary because the arrival point is water rather than a runway. A morning departure from Miami or Fort Lauderdale can put a small group on the harbour at Bimini, alongside a yacht in the Exumas or at a dock in Islamorada without a road transfer at either end. That is the whole argument for the aircraft and it is why our seaplane charter desk treats the water as part of the route plan.

Most enquiries begin with a destination rather than an aircraft. If the plan is a day on the sand, Bahamas in a Day or a beach picnic is usually the right frame. If the plan is a stay, we look at Harbour Island, Staniel Cay, Nassau and Key West first, then work backwards to the departure point that saves the most ground time. Where a seaplane is not the best answer we say so and offer helicopter, small plane or private jet alternatives instead.

International crossings add customs, immigration and documentation. Our team files the paperwork for Bahamas arrivals, confirms the port of entry and briefs you on travel documents and baggage guidance before the day. Soft bags matter on a floatplane and we will tell you early if the load plan needs adjusting. Weather is handled the same way: the weather and delays policy sets out how sea state and afternoon convection are assessed and who calls you if a departure moves.

On the ground we can add chauffeur services, meet and greet, catering, yacht transfers and dock pickup so the flight is one part of a single arrangement. Groups and families travelling together can use or several linked legs and returning clients often move to a corporate account. To begin, send the date and the two ends of the trip to the charter desk or and a flight planner will reply with options.

Seaplane Charter: We Take Care of Both Borders

A flight inside Florida files nothing, and a Bahamas day files both borders

A day that stays inside Florida has no border in it. There is nothing to file, nothing to carry and no port of entry: the aircraft leaves the water it is on and lands on the water you asked for.

A day that crosses to the islands is a different matter, and it is the half most guests never see. The manifest goes in before the aircraft moves, the departure is filed on the American side, the aircraft clears at a Bahamian port of entry, and the only thing the seaplane charter desk asks a party for is a name and a passport number.

What is left is ours rather than yours. We file both borders when there are two, confirm the port of entry and brief you on travel documents and baggage before the day. Weather gets its own call early enough to move a departure rather than lose it.

Private Seaplane Charter: The Whole Aircraft, One Manifest and the Same Crew Home

The aircraft waits on the water where it dropped you, because nobody else is on the manifest

One party, one aircraft, one manifest. Nothing on the schedule belongs to anyone else, so the departure hour is yours and so is the return, and a party that wants to stay another two hours on the sand says so on the day rather than in a booking system.

The same crew flies both legs. They know where they put you down, they know what the water was doing when they left, and the flight home is not handed to a different aircraft at a different field.

The whole chain is a departure point, not just the islands with a runway. Parties leave from the Keys, from Miami and from Fort Lauderdale depending on where the day starts, and the seaplane charter desk arranges the rest.

Questions

Seaplane Charter Questions, Answered

Where can a seaplane land in the Bahamas and the Florida Keys?

A seaplane lands on protected water: harbours, sheltered bays, lee shores, marina basins and, where permitted, alongside a yacht or a dock. The exact site depends on wind, sea state, tide and local rules, so our flight planners confirm the landing point close to departure and always brief an alternative. Where water access is not appropriate on the day, we move the arrival to a nearby site or to a runway and arrange the ground transfer.

Do I need a passport for a seaplane charter to the Bahamas?

Yes. The Bahamas is an international crossing, so every passenger needs a valid passport and any visa their nationality requires and children need their own documents. We file the inbound and outbound paperwork, confirm the port of entry and send a document checklist once the booking is confirmed. Guidance for each nationality is set out on our travel documents page and the charter desk will review your party before the day.

How much luggage can I bring on a seaplane charter?

Floatplanes are weight and volume sensitive, so luggage is planned rather than assumed. Soft bags load far better than hard cases and the usable allowance depends on the aircraft, the number of passengers, the fuel required and the conditions. We agree your allowance before the flight and will tell you early if the load plan needs adjusting. The confirmed allowance for your party is stated on your charter agreement.

What happens if weather stops a seaplane flight?

Water operations depend on wind and sea state as well as visibility, so a departure can move even on a clear day. We watch the forecast from the day before, contact you as soon as a change looks likely and offer a revised time, an alternative landing site or a different aircraft. Where a trip cannot be flown safely, the flight is rescheduled or refunded according to the terms of your charter agreement. Safety decisions rest with the operator and the pilot in command.

Can a seaplane charter be booked for the same day?

Often yes for Florida legs and sometimes for the Bahamas, but international crossings need customs notification and a confirmed port of entry, which sets a practical limit on how late a booking can be made. Aircraft availability in season is the other constraint. The fastest route is to send the date, the two ends of the trip and your passenger count to the charter desk and a flight planner will tell you within a few minutes what is possible.

Can I bring a pet on a seaplane charter?

Yes, pets travel in the cabin with you. The one thing we ask is that you tell us at the enquiry, with the type of animal and its weight, so the seating and the load plan are right from the start.
