A morning that starts at a dock on the ocean side wants the north end. A party collecting a car and heading further down the chain often does better from the mainland. The Road You Are Not Sitting On
One Way In
Everything that reaches Key Largo by land comes down from the mainland on the same stretch, and there is no alternative to switch to once you are on it. On a clear morning it is around an hour from the city. In season, on a Friday, or behind a single accident it is a good deal more, and the return in the evening is the same problem in reverse.
The flight is roughly sixteen minutes and it takes roughly sixteen minutes on the worst day of the year. That is the whole argument for chartering over a distance this short: you are not buying speed, you are buying a number that does not move.
