The water north of the cay has been a national park since 2002, 3,840 acres of it, run by the Bahamas National Trust. It is one of the reasons the reef here still looks the way it does.
The park holds pompano and amberjack, sharks and barracuda, turtles and eagle rays, over coral that has been left alone. Nothing is taken out of it, which is the trade: the fishing happens outside the line and the looking happens inside it.
