The candy striped tower on the western side of Hope Town harbour is what the cay is known for, and from a helicopter it is the first thing anybody picks out on the way in.
It went into service in 1863 and it still works the old way: a kerosene burner lit by hand and a weight driven mechanism the keeper winds like a grandfather clock to keep the lens turning.
