A Short Walk
The quiet end of the island is a set of terraced gardens climbing away from the harbour, with a French cloister at the top of them that was shipped over stone by stone and rebuilt facing the water.
They stand on private hotel ground and are visible from the public street, which is how they end up in more wedding photographs than almost anywhere else in the Bahamas. A wedding or an elopement that begins with a flight from Florida usually finishes here for the pictures.
Rose Island and the Sandbars
East of the Harbour
East of the harbour the water opens into shallow banks and a line of small cays. Rose Island is the near one, a few miles out, with beaches that are empty on a weekday and a sandbar that dries at low water.
Blue Lagoon Island lies on the same run and is where the dolphin and sea lion encounters are. Both are a boat ride from the marina, and both are the part of the stretch that looks best from a few hundred feet on the way in.
