The Flight

Helicopter Miami to Blackpoint

Most ways of reaching a village in the Exuma Cays involve a handover. You land at a larger field, and then a boat or a second aircraft carries you the last stretch. A helicopter removes the handover. It leaves from the edge of Downtown Miami and the crossing ends at the island you chose.

Blackpoint lies about two hundred and thirty nautical miles south east of the city, on Great Guana Cay, in the middle of a chain of more than three hundred and sixty cays. Flown low and unhurried, that distance has a shape. The deep blue gives way about halfway across, and what follows is bank: pale green, white sand and the dark cuts between the cays, all the way to a settlement on a ridge above the water.

Everything between the two ends is ours: the departure point, the aircraft and crew, both border filings and the travel documents the Bahamas asks for. Your party brings passports and a bag. Neither end of the day has a terminal. It is the largest settlement in the Exuma Cays. The same island is also reached by small plane, by seaplane and by private plane, and every option sits side by side in Flights from Miami to Blackpoint. All our other departures are listed under Helicopter Charter from Miami.

How a Helicopter Ride from Miami to Blackpoint Actually Works

A helicopter charter between Miami and Blackpoint is more than the flight across the Gulf Stream. This is what every booking covers, from your first message to the moment you step out on Great Guana Cay.

Plan Your Blackpoint Charter

Distance and Altitude

Two Hundred and Thirty Nautical Miles to the Ridge

Blackpoint lies about two hundred and thirty nautical miles south east of the city, or roughly two hundred and sixty five statute miles. A helicopter flies it low enough that the bank and the cuts through it stay readable. Your departure point sets the start.

The Whole Aircraft

Your Party Alone in the Helicopter Cabin

The cabin is held for the names you give us. Nobody is added to it, nothing connects through another field, and the aircraft stays with your party while a lunch in the settlement runs long.

No Runway at the Other End

A Ridge Settlement and No Runway Required

A helicopter does not need a runway, which is why the settlements between the better known stops can be on an itinerary at all. Where it sets down is agreed with the operator before the day, at a site cleared for it rather than one picked off a chart.

Both Borders

Passports, Manifest and One Entry Stop for Blackpoint

The routing clears into the Bahamas at a port of entry, either here or at a larger one on the way, and which one is settled before the day. We take the passport details once, at the enquiry, and the travel documents go in from our side rather than yours.

On Board and Ashore

Catering, Celebrations and What Travels to Blackpoint

The settlement has a few small shops and a handful of tables, so lunch, drinks and anything the day needs travel with you. Catering goes on board beforehand, a cart is held with the flight, and an occasion is arranged as a custom experience.

How Long the Day Runs

Day Trip to Multi-Day Exumas Itinerary

Most parties take Blackpoint as one stop among several, with the aircraft waiting while they are ashore, and a few make it the base for a week in the chain. The cabin is held for your block rather than a published slot, so the order of the day is yours.

Departure Points

Departure Points for a Miami to Blackpoint Helicopter

A helicopter can lift from a pad as easily as from a ramp, so the departure point follows your morning rather than the aircraft. These are the four we use in Miami. Select one to see exactly where it sits.

Watson Island Heliport

Watson Island, Miami

The pad on the bay between downtown and South Beach, a short boat ride from the marinas and from Fisher Island. This is the one that turns a yacht day into a flight without a drive in between. Two miles from downtown and four from Miami Beach, so it is also the shortest ground leg for anyone staying on either side of the water.

How to Charter

How to Book a Helicopter Ride Miami to Blackpoint

Chartering an aircraft takes four steps, and only the first one is yours.

Plan Your Blackpoint Charter
  1. 01

    Contact Us

Write to us on WhatsApp or by email. Send your dates, how many guests, where you are coming from and where you want to travel. Tell us the hour you would like to leave.

  2. 02

    Get Aircraft and Prices Back

We check what is free on your date and send what fits your party. Seats, baggage and flight time for each one. You are pricing the whole airframe rather than a headcount, so a smaller group on the same aircraft costs the same as a full one.

  3. 03

    Confirm and Pay

You pick the aircraft, and we set the pickup point. Then everything around the flight. Catering on board, a cart or a boat waiting when you land, ground transport at the Miami end. Flowers if the day is a special one.

You approve it, you pay, and your boarding time, departure point and everything included come back to you. Passport details come to us at the same time, because both border filings are made from our side before anybody travels.

  4. 04

Just Arrive 30 Minutes Before Departure

You will have no terminal and no queue. Just make sure you are there 30 minutes before. Then you lift off, cross, and the day starts.

Where Helicopter Rides Miami Blackpoint Put You Down

The helicopter is where a Blackpoint day really begins. A low flight over the Gulf Stream, and then a working settlement on a ridge above the bank, palm baskets plaited in the shade and a blowhole on the Exuma Sound side, with Staniel Cay and its swimming pigs a few miles up the chain. Below is what a day out there can look like.

Blackpoint, the Largest Settlement in the Exuma Cays

A Working Town
A hammock slung between two palms on white sand, turquoise shallows and the open ocean behind it

Black Point is the largest settlement in the Exuma Cays and the second largest in the whole district after George Town. The houses run along a ridge on Great Guana Cay and look straight out over the bank. It is a place where people live all year rather than a resort: a school, churches, a few small shops and a handful of tables. A day here is a visit to a town, and a party that arrives on its own aircraft arrives quietly, with no ferry crowd around it. Everything sits within a short ride or a walk, so the afternoon starts as soon as the rotors stop. A cart booked with the flight through ground transport takes care of bags and a cooler, and the Blackpoint destination page covers the place itself.

In Detail

Helicopter from Miami to Blackpoint: The Bank, the Ridge and the Anchorage

Everything above is the day. What follows is the detail behind it: what the cabin is like, what the water does on the way down, what the first hours on the island are worth, who does the paperwork and what kind of date puts a party on a flight to the Bahamas.

Helicopter Miami to Blackpoint: Flying Low Over the Reef and the Flats

Room enough and a window each on a Blackpoint helicopter

The crossing is not dead time between two airports. A helicopter is flown low and slow with glass on every side, so the water under you is the first thing the day gives you. Blackpoint lies about two hundred and thirty nautical miles south east of the city, in the middle of a chain of more than three hundred and sixty cays. The deep blue gives out about halfway across, and from there it is bank: pale green, white sand and the dark lines of the cuts, down to a ridge with the largest settlement in the Exumas on it. Staniel Cay is about five miles up the chain and Little Farmer's Cay about nine miles south, so a cart held for your party and a table in the settlement are set with the flight rather than found on arrival, with ground transport priced alongside the aircraft. Every seat is a window seat on helicopters in the fleet of this size, so nobody watches the crossing over someone's shoulder. Other helicopter routes from Miami fly the same way.

Helicopter Ride from Miami to Blackpoint: You Decide the Departure Time

Your hour, your names and a helicopter to Blackpoint

Nobody hands you a timetable on a charter. The day is built around the hour you name. You name the hour you want to lift off, the hour you want to be standing in Blackpoint and which water in the city suits your morning. The aircraft belongs to your party for the day, so all three are your decision rather than a departure somebody else set, and a change the week before is a message to us. If the drive is shorter the other way, the same day runs out of Fort Lauderdale. Half an hour before the lift-off is the whole of the check-in. Your party walks from the car to the aircraft, the bags go on in front of you, and the list for that flight carries your names and nobody else's. Nothing about the morning waits on a stranger. Because the aircraft is yours, the point it leaves from is a choice and not a given. And the crossing is a reason in itself. The windows are deep and the aircraft crosses low, so there is room for everybody to sit and watch the water change instead of taking turns at one of them.

Miami to Blackpoint Helicopter: The Crew Handles Both Borders

Passports are all your party carries on a Blackpoint crossing

A helicopter from Miami to Blackpoint crosses an international border twice in a day. It is the part that goes wrong when nobody files it in advance. Entry into the Bahamas asks for a declaration filed from Florida, clearance at a port of entry on arrival and a US return filed before you leave, which is what sets where you may land coming home. On a Crown Air charter the crew files all three. Your party carries a valid passport and nothing else. Passports for everyone, children included, per the travel documents guidance. What may travel sits in the baggage guidance. That same filing also sets where you land coming home, and the landing point comes back to you with the quote, settled before anyone boards. A departure moved by weather runs under the weather and delays policy. If the party changes before the flight, the crew refiles. A name added, a name dropped: that is a message to us rather than a problem for you. Nothing is left for the day itself: the forms are filed and the manifest is final before anyone boards, with the routing already agreed. The crew checks it again before you lift off.

Miami Blackpoint Helicopter Tours: Milestone Days and Bahamas Weekends

A day trip, a weekend or something to celebrate on Blackpoint

A private helicopter from Miami to Blackpoint is booked when the day is worth marking: a birthday, a proposal, a graduation, a weekend away with the people who matter. The flight is short enough that the occasion, not the travelling, is what the day is about. That is what a Miami Blackpoint Helicopter Tours charter is for. The settlement has its own pace and its own craft. Women weave baskets and hats from palm leaves in the shade, and a party that wants a gift to carry home can buy one at the source. If the island is the point, a Blackpoint day trip is the shape, with the extras. Some parties fly over for the day and are home the same evening. Others stay on and book the return for the day they want. Both are the same charter, and the whole group travels together on one booking. If there is something to celebrate, say so when you book: catering, a private chef, premium beverages and flowers travel with you. Everything is in place before you board in Miami.

Questions

Helicopter Miami to Blackpoint: Questions Answered

How far is Blackpoint from Miami by helicopter?

Blackpoint lies about two hundred and thirty nautical miles south east of the city, roughly two hundred and sixty five statute miles, in the middle of the Exuma chain. A helicopter is not the fastest way to cover that water, and speed is rarely what decides it. What decides it is the hour itself: low over the bank, unhurried, in a cabin that carries your party and nobody else.

Where does the helicopter leave from in Miami?

Miami's heliport sits about two miles from Downtown and four from Miami Beach, which for most parties is a short drive rather than a journey. Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach are also possible and have their own pages. Tell us where your party is actually staying and the departure point is picked around that rather than the other way round.

Where exactly does the helicopter set down at Blackpoint?

Every arrival from abroad clears at a port of entry first, the same as for any aircraft on this route. Black Point itself is on the Bahamian list of ports of entry, and a larger one on the way is the other option.

Whether anything closer to where you are staying is possible after that depends on the day and on the permissions in place, so it is settled with the operator when you book rather than promised on a web page. Both come back to you with the quote.

Is Blackpoint the same place as Black Point?

Yes. Charts and signposts write it as two words, Black Point, and it is the settlement on Great Guana Cay in the Exumas. It is the same place whichever way you type it.

The island is long and narrow, with the houses on a ridge above the bank, so when you send the date it helps to say whether the day is built around the settlement or around the cays on either side.

Can we choose our own departure time?

Yes, within daylight and within what the crew is allowed to fly. That is the main thing a charter buys you on this route.

The hour is set when you confirm and can still be moved afterwards if your day changes, because the aircraft is not going anywhere else and there are no other passengers to inconvenience. Scheduled seats to this part of the chain come out of Nassau, so a charter is the one way of choosing the hour yourself.

Is anyone else on the helicopter?

No. A charter carries the people you name and nobody else. There is no seat assignment, no other party sharing the cabin, and no risk of the flight leaving without part of your group. The passenger list can also change up to shortly before the flight: a name added or dropped is a refiling on our side rather than a rebooking on yours.

Do I need a passport for Blackpoint?

Yes, for every passenger including children. The Bahamas is a different country and a helicopter does not change that. We take the passport details once at the enquiry and file for both sides before departure. The travel documents page lists what each passenger hands over and by when. Children need their own, and a name that changes after you have paid is a refiling on our side rather than a problem on yours.

What can you see on the way over?

The colour of the water, the whole way. The deep blue runs out about halfway and the rest is the Great Bahama Bank: pale green shallows, sandbores drying in the sun and the dark cuts between the cays.

From a jet at altitude that is a blue rectangle. Near the end the ridge comes up with the settlement along it and a wide anchorage in front, masts scattered across pale water, which is the part parties describe afterwards.

Can we do it as a day trip?

Yes, and it is the usual shape. The settlement is small enough to see in an afternoon, the return hour stays movable while you are still there, and a table for lunch and a walk across the ridge fit inside it.

A morning out and an evening back works, and a night on the island changes the baggage rather than the route. Rooms are few, which is worth knowing before a group plans to stay.

What if the weather turns on the day?

The day moves. Weather is the one thing a charter does not make flexible, and we would rather move a flight than fly it badly. You are told as early as we know, and the aircraft is rebooked to a date that works for your party. Because it was held for you and nobody else, moving it is a conversation rather than a queue for the next available seat.

How many people fit?

It depends on the aircraft and on what the party is carrying, which is why the answer comes with the quote rather than before it. Send the headcount and the bags at the enquiry and you get back what is free on your date, what each one takes and what each one costs. You are pricing the airframe rather than a headcount, so the cost per person falls as the group grows.

How do we start?

Send the date, the number of guests, where you are leaving from and the hour you would like. You get back what is free, what it costs, the boarding time and what is included, and nothing is held until you say so.

If the day has anything else in it, a cart waiting or a table held for lunch, say so at the same time and it comes back priced alongside the aircraft. Where the routing has to clear at a port of entry on the way through, that leg is in the quote as well rather than added afterwards.

Can I bring a pet on a helicopter charter?

Yes, pets travel in the cabin with you. The one thing we ask is that you tell us at the enquiry, with the type of animal and its weight, so the seating and the load plan are right from the start.
