The Run Up the Coast
Seaplane from Miami to West Palm Beach by Private Charter
A seaplane from Miami to West Palm Beach is the one crossing on this coast where the water is not the obstacle. It is the shortcut. Downtown Miami to West Palm Beach is roughly 65 statute miles, just under 57 nautical and a float aircraft flies almost all of it over the ocean rather than over the traffic that makes the same trip on the ground.
The flight runs about half an hour in the air. The aircraft lifts off Biscayne Bay, turns north and holds the beach line. Government Cut, Haulover, the Port Everglades entrance and the Hillsboro light go past on the left, the Atlantic stays on the right and the last of them is the Palm Beach Inlet. Then the floats settle on sheltered water behind the barrier island.
Everything between those two moments is ours: the departure point in Miami, the aircraft and the crew, the set-down at the far end and whatever is waiting on the ground when you step off. Your party brings a bag and photo identification for the ramp.
This is one of the short domestic runs we fly from a seaplane base in Miami and one of several seaplane routes out of the city. The same airframe that crosses to the islands flies this coastal leg in a fraction of the time. Up to nine seats travel on one booking. Which aircraft flies your date comes back with the quote.
Plan Your Palm Beach CharterHow It Works
How a Seaplane Miami to West Palm Beach Actually Works
A seaplane Miami to West Palm Beach charter is a short hop, so the part that makes an island day complicated is simply absent. What shapes this day instead is the ground. The same 65 miles on Interstate 95 or the Turnpike run through Broward, the heaviest travelled stretch of interstate in the state.
The time it takes is not a number anybody can promise you at eight in the morning. What follows is the whole sequence in order, from the water in Miami to the set-down behind Palm Beach island and back the same evening.
Plan Your Palm Beach CharterDistance and Time
Sixty five miles up the coast, about half an hour of it in the air
Downtown Miami to downtown West Palm Beach is roughly 65 statute miles, just under 57 nautical and the line runs parallel to the beach the whole way. On floats that is about half an hour airborne, plus the taxi out and the set-down at the far end. The exact block time depends on the aircraft and on which departure point you leave from and it comes back with the boarding time.
The Whole Aircraft
The aircraft is chartered whole, so your party flies to West Palm Beach together and comes home together
If the aircraft stays at Palm Beach rather than turning around, four hours ashore means four hours and the return leaves when your party is finished rather than when a timetable says so.
Water Landing
The water at the far end is the lagoon behind Palm Beach island, not the ocean
The Lake Worth Lagoon runs about twenty miles behind the barrier island and opens to the Atlantic through the Palm Beach Inlet, so it is sheltered water rather than open sea. That is the difference between a landing that works on an ordinary breezy afternoon and one that does not.
Where exactly the aircraft puts down comes back with the quote, because it is set by the operator for your date and by the state of the water. The mechanics sit in the water landing guide.
Nothing to File
Adults carry photo identification for the ramp and that is the whole list
Children need nothing at all. The general guidance still sits in the travel documents guidance and it matters again the moment the same aircraft carries on to the islands.
Wheels If the Water Says No
An amphibious aircraft can arrive on a runway when the lagoon is wrong
Palm Beach County runs four public airports and two of them, Lantana (LNA) and North County (F45), are general aviation fields rather than airline terminals. On an amphibious airframe a paved arrival is a real option rather than a fallback, which is what amphibious access means in practice. It costs you a short drive at the far end and buys a day that is not hostage to the wind.
The Way Back
The way back carries a clock and it is the sun rather than an office
Water landings run only from 30 minutes after sunrise to 30 minutes before sunset, so nothing on floats arrives in the dark and the return leg has a deadline from the moment the date is set. On this route the daylight is the only clock, which is the one thing that makes a Palm Beach day roomier than a longer day of the same length.
A return that would arrive after dark lands on a lit runway rather than on water, so a late dinner ashore is a question of which end of the flight moves. A departure moved by weather runs under the weather and delays policy.
Departure Points
Departure Points for a Seaplane Miami to West Palm Beach
A seaplane needs no airport at the Miami end, so the departure point follows your morning rather than the aircraft. Two of these four put you on the water, two on a ramp.
Miami Seaplane Base
555 NE 15th St, Miami
The water departure, on Biscayne Bay just north of downtown. Boarding is from the dock, so nothing between the car and the aircraft looks like an airport. The shortest ground leg for Brickell, downtown and the beach and the usual choice when a yacht is the other half of the day.
Opa-locka Executive
Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport, OPF
The executive airport north west of the city, with private terminal handling at both ends of the day.
Miami Executive
Miami Executive Airport, TMB, Kendall
Kendall-Tamiami, in the south west of the county. When the aircraft for your date is already based at this field, the charter starts without a positioning leg. That matters most on a same day return, where an hour lost in Florida is an hour lost at the far end.
Miami International
Miami International Airport, MIA
A pickup rather than a base and the right one when the party is already landing at MIA and the onward leg should leave from the same airport. No aircraft is stationed here, so it is arranged per flight and confirmed with the operator before it is quoted.
How to Charter
How to Charter a Seaplane to West Palm Beach from Miami
Chartering a seaplane is not booking a seat. There are four steps, and only the first one is yours.

Contact Us
Write to us on WhatsApp or by email. Send your dates, how many guests, where you are coming from and where you want to travel. Tell us the hour you would like to leave. A seaplane lands on water and on runways. Your pickup can be a marina, a hotel dock or a beach, and an airport works just as well.
- 02
Get Aircraft and Prices Back
We check what is free on your date and send the seaplanes that fit. Seats, baggage and flight time for each one. Every aircraft costs a little differently, so we can find the best fit for you.
- 03
Confirm and Pay
You pick the aircraft, and we set the pickup point and the landing site. Then everything around the flight. Catering on board, a car or a golf cart waiting when you land, ground transport to your hotel or back to the airport. Flowers if the day is a special one. You approve it, you pay, and your boarding time, departure point and everything included come back to you.
- 04
Just Arrive 30 Minutes Early
You will have no terminal and no queue. Just make sure you are there 30 minutes before. Then you take off, land right at your destination, and enjoy the day.
At the Palm Beach End
Where a Miami to West Palm Beach Seaplane Puts You Down
West Palm Beach is the mainland side of the Lake Worth Lagoon and Palm Beach is the barrier island across it, joined by three short bridges. A water arrival puts you between the two rather than on the western edge of the county.
What follows is what parties actually do with the hours in between.
Plan Your Palm Beach CharterPalm Beach and Worth Avenue
Across the WaterThe island is a separate town from the city on the mainland and the distance between them is a bridge rather than a drive. That is the single thing most guests get wrong before they come.
Worth Avenue runs four blocks from the lagoon to the ocean, with the vias running off it, small courtyards behind archways that most people walk past without noticing. At the north end of the island stands Whitehall, the house Henry Flagler finished in 1902 and now the Flagler Museum, which is the reason the railway and the resort town exist at all.
The ocean beaches are on the far side of the island and the lagoon side carries the docks. Guests who want a table rather than a boat book a fly and dine day and anything outside the usual list goes to custom requests.
The Lagoon and Peanut Island
Where You LandThe Lake Worth Lagoon is an estuary about twenty miles long, held between the mainland and the barrier island and open to the Atlantic at the Palm Beach Inlet. It is the sheltered water that makes a float arrival sensible here.
Peanut Island sits in the middle of that opening: 79 acres of spoil left over from cutting the inlet in 1918, with a swimming beach and a snorkel lagoon on the lee side.
Under the trees is the fallout shelter the Navy built for President Kennedy at the height of the Cold War, a buried hut behind a forty foot tunnel, which is either the oddest thing on the island or the only thing worth walking to, depending on the guest.
Boats anchor off the sand bar on the south side at the weekend. That is where a beach picnic goes and where water toys earn their place, or a dock pickup if a boat is meeting you at the marina.
Clematis Street and the Waterfront
A Short RideThe mainland side is a working downtown rather than a resort strip, so a day here can be a meeting in the morning and a table in the evening without either one feeling out of place.
Clematis Street runs five blocks inland from Flagler Drive to Rosemary Avenue and Rosemary Square sits just south of that far end. Flagler Drive follows the lagoon the whole length of the city, so the water is in sight from most of it and the Norton Museum of Art is a short ride south of the centre.
Ground is the part worth arranging in advance rather than at the dock. A car waiting or a meet and greet turns a set-down into an arrival and catering on board covers the leg itself.
The Blue Heron Bridge
Best at High TideThe best known piece of water in the county is not offshore. It is the shallow ground under the Blue Heron Bridge at Phil Foster Park in Riviera Beach, at the north end of the lagoon.
More than 300 species have been recorded there and most of it is in a few feet of water, so divers with a lifetime of reef behind them keep coming back to a snorkel trail beside a road bridge. The catch is the tide: it is worth doing within about an hour either side of high water and close to unusable outside that window.
That is a real constraint on a day trip rather than a detail, because the high water falls about fifty minutes later each day and will not negotiate with your boarding time. Say if the party wants it and the departure is built around the water .
Manatee Lagoon in Winter
November to MarchManatees do not tolerate cold water. When the lagoon drops below about 68 degrees they crowd into the warm outflow of the power station on the Riviera Beach side, sometimes in the hundreds. The viewing centre on North Flagler Drive is built for exactly that and it is free.
The season runs from the middle of November to the end of March and the animals turn up on the cold days rather than the pretty ones, which is the opposite of how most people plan a Florida trip. It is a short ride from the water and it pairs with the bridge at the other end of the same lagoon, so a winter morning can honestly hold both.
The Gulf Stream Off Palm Beach
Closest to ShoreThe continental shelf is narrower off Palm Beach County than anywhere else on the North American coast, so the Gulf Stream runs closer to the mainland here than it does anywhere north or south of it. That is why the diving off this stretch is drift diving: you go in, the current carries you along the reef line and the boat follows the bubbles.
It is also why the fishing grounds are a short run out rather than an hour. Grand Bahama lies almost due east of here rather than to the south east, so the crossing to that island is shorter from here than it is from Miami. For Bimini it is the other way round.
Gear travels within the payload for the aircraft on the day, the same way it does on a fishing day by seaplane.
The Winter Season Inland
January to MarchSixteen miles inland at Wellington the winter equestrian season runs about thirteen weeks from the turn of the year to the end of March and it fills the county's hotels for the whole of it. The boat show on Flagler Drive lands at the end of the same window, in late March, on the waterfront in the middle of town.
Those are the weeks when the road up from Miami is at its worst and when a flight is worth the most it is ever worth on this route. They are also the weeks when the aircraft has to be held early rather than asked for late. A milestone or a proposal planned inside that window is worth naming when you send the date.
Onward From Palm Beach
Same AircraftA seaplane charter Miami to West Palm Beach also works as the first leg rather than the whole day. The same aircraft carries on east to Harbour Island and the rest of the Bahamas and south to Key West. That is what turns one coastal hop into island hopping or a wider Bahamas day.
A second leg across the Gulf Stream turns a domestic day into an international one, so it is named when the date is sent rather than afterwards. If a yacht is meeting you, the aircraft can set the party down alongside instead of at a pier. That is a yacht transfer and on this stretch of coast it is the reason a good number of these flights happen at all.
The full city guide sits on the West Palm Beach destination page, the packaged version is the West Palm Beach getaway day trip and the flights that start there rather than end there are on the seaplane charter from West Palm Beach page.

In Detail
Seaplane from Miami to West Palm Beach: The Coast, the Lagoon and a Water Landing
Everything above is the day. What follows is the detail behind it: the coast line, the sheltered water at the far end, the departure points and what charter and private actually change about a seaplane flight from Miami.
Seaplane Miami to West Palm Beach: Flying Low Over the Reef and the Flats
Room enough and a window each on a West Palm Beach seaplane
The crossing is not dead time between two airports. A seaplane runs low and slow, so the water under the wing is the first thing the day gives you. Downtown Miami to West Palm Beach is roughly 65 statute miles, just under 57 nautical and a float aircraft flies almost all of it over the ocean rather than over the traffic that makes the same trip on the ground. West Palm Beach is on one bank, the island of Palm Beach is on the other and three bridges join them, so a beach picnic and a dock pickup are the two things guests add most often to a day that starts on the water. Peanut Island sits in the middle of that opening: 79 acres of dredged spoil left over from cutting the inlet in 1918, with a swimming beach on the lee side and the fallout shelter the Navy built for President Kennedy under the trees. Every seat is a window seat on seaplanes in the fleet of this size, so nobody watches the crossing over someone's shoulder. Other seaplane routes from Miami fly the same way.
Seaplane to West Palm Beach from Miami: You Decide the Departure Time
Your hour, your names and a seaplane to West Palm Beach
Nobody hands you a timetable on a charter. The day is built around the hour you name. You name the hour you want to lift off, the hour you want to be standing on West Palm Beach and which water in the city suits your morning. The aircraft belongs to your party for the day, so all three are your decision rather than a departure somebody else set, and a change the week before is a message to us. If the drive is shorter the other way, the same day runs out of Fort Lauderdale. Half an hour before the lift-off is the whole of the check-in. Your party walks from the car to the aircraft, the bags go on in front of you, and the list for that flight carries your names and nobody else's. Nothing about the morning waits on a stranger. And the crossing is a reason in itself. The windows are deep and the aircraft crosses low, so there is room for everybody to sit and watch the water change instead of taking turns at one of them.
Miami to West Palm Beach Seaplane: Nothing to File, Nothing to Carry
No customs and no check-in desk on a West Palm Beach charter
A seaplane from Miami to West Palm Beach stays inside Florida, so there is no border to clear and no paperwork anybody has to file. The flight never leaves the country, so there is no declaration, no port of entry and no passport check at either end. Your party needs photo identification and nothing more. Because nothing has to be filed in advance, this is one of the few routes where a date that moves by a day is a scheduling question rather than a paperwork question. Everything around the flight is settled from our side before your party arrives, from the slot at both ends to the handling on the ramp. Your party walks from the car to the aircraft and the bags go on in front of you. What may travel sits in the baggage guidance. A departure moved by weather runs under the weather and delays policy, and a name added or dropped before the flight is a message to us rather than a problem for you.
Seaplane Miami West Palm Beach: Milestone Days and Florida Weekends
A day trip, a weekend or a celebration on West Palm Beach
A private seaplane from Miami to West Palm Beach is booked when the day is worth marking: a birthday, a proposal, a graduation, a weekend away with the people who matter. The flight is short enough that the occasion, not the travelling, is what the day is about. That is what a seaplane Miami West Palm Beach charter is for. A private seaplane Miami West Palm Beach charter is booked when the day matters more than the fare: a season opening, a boat waiting at the inlet, a birthday that starts in the air rather than at a table. Some parties fly over for the day and are home the same evening. Others stay on and book the return for the day they want. Both are the same charter, and the whole group travels together on one booking. If there is something to celebrate, say so when you book: catering, a private chef, premium beverages and flowers travel with you. Everything is in place before you board in Miami.
Questions
Seaplane from Miami to West Palm Beach: Questions Answered
How long is the seaplane flight from Miami to West Palm Beach?
About half an hour in the air. Downtown West Palm Beach lies roughly 65 statute miles from downtown Miami, just under 57 nautical and the track runs parallel to the beach almost the whole way.
The exact block time depends on the aircraft and on which of the four Miami departure points you leave from and it is confirmed with the boarding time before you book. What sets the length of the day is not the flight. It is how long the aircraft waits for you at the far end.
Can the seaplane come alongside a dock on the lagoon?
Often, yes. The Lake Worth Lagoon runs about twenty miles between the mainland and the barrier island, so there is sheltered water on days when the beach side is unusable. Adults carry photo identification because a ramp is a controlled area and children need nothing. Send the coordinates with the enquiry and the pilots decide whether they can put down there.
Where does a seaplane land in West Palm Beach?
On sheltered water rather than on the ocean. The Lake Worth Lagoon runs about twenty miles between the mainland and the barrier island and opens to the Atlantic at the Palm Beach Inlet, so the water behind the island stays usable on days when the beach side does not.
The exact set-down point is chosen by the operator for your date and for the state of the water and it comes back with the quote rather than being promised in advance.
Can you do West Palm Beach as a day trip from Miami?
Yes and it is the most common way parties do it. Out in the morning, back before dark, with the aircraft waiting at the Palm Beach end rather than turning around, so four hours ashore means four hours. Nothing has to be filed with anybody, so the day needs nothing on your list beyond telling us when you want to leave and when you want to be home.
How late can we fly back to Miami on the same day?
A seaplane needs daylight on the water. Landings run from 30 minutes after sunrise to 30 minutes before sunset, so the day has a hard end rather than an open one and the window moves through the year. On this route the sun is the only clock: no office closes earlier than it does.
A return that would arrive after dark lands on a lit runway instead of on water, so a late evening ashore is a question of which end of the flight moves rather than whether the day works at all.
How many people can fly on one charter to West Palm Beach?
Up to nine. The aircraft is chartered whole rather than sold by the seat, so your party travels together on one booking and comes home on the same aircraft. Nobody else is on it. Send the headcount and say whether children are travelling: they count as passengers on the operator list.
How much luggage can we take to West Palm Beach and can we bring golf clubs or dive gear?
Golf bags, dive gear and hard cases all travel regularly, within the payload for the aircraft on the day. The limit is a weight rather than a bag count, which is why bulky equipment is declared when you book rather than weighed at the dock: it comes out of the same payload the passengers do. On a half-hour leg the fuel load is small, which usually works in your favour rather than against you.
What happens if weather stops the flight to West Palm Beach?
Water operations depend on wind and sea state as well as visibility, so a departure can move on a day that looks clear from the beach and summer afternoons move return legs more often than mornings do.
The call belongs to the operator rather than the guest and you are told before you book how a moved departure is handled. On this route an amphibious aircraft has a second answer as well: a paved arrival in the county instead of the lagoon.
Is a seaplane faster than driving or taking the train?
It depends on both ends. The train between the two downtowns takes a little over an hour and runs to a timetable and the drive on Interstate 95 or the Turnpike is around 65 to 70 miles with no honest number attached to it at rush hour.
A seaplane is about half an hour in the air with no terminal at either end. Where it wins is not the raw minutes. It is that the day is yours and the return leaves when you are ready.
Can you fly to West Palm Beach from Fort Lauderdale or the Florida Keys instead?
Yes. West Palm Beach is reachable from every departure point in the corridor and the leg from Fort Lauderdale is about two thirds of the distance of the one from Miami. The right departure point is the one closest to where you are staying, not the one closest to Palm Beach. Say where the morning starts and the answer comes back with it already chosen.
What does a private seaplane charter from Miami to West Palm Beach cost?
A charter is priced as a whole aircraft, not per seat, so the number moves with three things: which aircraft flies your date, how many of you there are once bags are aboard and how long the aircraft waits at the Palm Beach end. Tell us those and you get one all-in number, with the departure point, the boarding time and the hours ashore it is based on, before anything is due.
Can the seaplane carry on to the Bahamas the same day?
Yes and for Grand Bahama it is the shorter way, because that island lies almost due east of here. Say so when you send the date, because that leg is arranged with the same booking and it changes the shape of the day.
Can you land next to a yacht or at a private dock on the lagoon?
Often, it is one of the reasons this flight gets booked. Send the coordinates or the marina and the pilots decide whether they can put down there for your date, because a set-down away from a ramp needs the right water, the right wind and a tender in the water to collect you. If the answer is no, the alternative is a short run from the nearest usable water rather than a cancelled day.
Can I bring a pet on a seaplane charter?
Yes, pets travel in the cabin with you. The one thing we ask is that you tell us at the enquiry, with the type of animal and its weight, so the seating and the load plan are right from the start.
