The Hop
Seaplane from Miami to Pompano Beach by Private Charter
Pompano Beach lies about 33 statute miles up the coast from downtown Miami, just under 29 nautical. On floats that is roughly eleven minutes in the air. The same journey by road is 36 miles and about 48 minutes with a clear road. That gap is the entire reason this flight exists: the distance is trivial and the ground between the two is not.
Pompano Beach is a Broward County city on three miles of Atlantic shoreline, immediately north of Fort Lauderdale and about five miles south of Boca Raton. It takes its name from the pompano, the inshore game fish that runs off this coast.
The Hillsboro Inlet cuts through at the north end of it. That inlet joins the Atlantic to the Intracoastal Waterway and it is why the charter fleet keeps its berths here rather than further down the coast.
Everything between the two ends is ours: the departure point in Miami, the aircraft and the crew, the slot and whatever is waiting on the ground at the far end. Your party brings a bag. Nobody is asked to be anywhere an hour early.
It is one of several seaplane routes out of the city and the shortest of them. Up to nine seats travel on one booking, out of a seaplane base in Miami. Which aircraft flies your date is answered with the quote.
Plan Your Pompano Beach CharterHow It Works
How a Seaplane Miami to Pompano Beach Actually Works
Pompano Beach is close enough that most of the day is not the flight. It is the two ends: where you leave the water at the Miami end and where the aircraft puts down at the far one.
What is left is daylight, water state and the hour you want to be back. What follows is the whole sequence in order, from the water in Miami to the ramp or the dock where the day finishes.
Plan Your Pompano Beach CharterDistance and Time
Thirty three miles up the coast, about eleven minutes of it in the air
Downtown Miami to Pompano Beach is roughly 33 statute miles, just under 29 nautical. At the cruise an amphibious seaplane holds that is about eleven minutes airborne, plus the taxi out at the Miami end and the approach at the far one. The block time for your date comes with the boarding time.
The Whole Aircraft
The seaplane is chartered whole, so your party flies up together and comes home together
The aircraft stays with you rather than turning around, so an afternoon at Pompano Beach is an afternoon rather than a window between two schedules.
Water Landing
Where the floats touch down at Pompano Beach is set with the operator, not assumed
The coast here has protected water behind it: the Hillsboro Inlet joins the Atlantic to the Intracoastal Waterway. The inlet itself is narrowed by rock on both sides and the current runs hard through the cut on an outgoing tide, so the set-down point is agreed with the operator on the day rather than picked from a map. The mechanics of a float arrival sit in the water landing guide.
The Airpark as the Other Answer
An amphibian can land at Pompano Beach Airpark when the water says no
Pompano Beach Airpark carries three paved runways, the longest 4,918 feet by 150. On an amphibious aircraft that is a genuine second option rather than a fallback with a penalty, which is the point of amphibious access. If the honest answer on your morning is wheels, you are told before you book, not at the slip.
Leaving Miami
Leaving Miami for Pompano Beach is a slip and a boarding time
This is one state and one country from end to end, which is the single biggest difference between this hop and any of the island crossings we fly. Names still go in when you book, because the operator runs passenger weights, bags and fuel through one payload calculation. That is a weight question and nothing else, so it is answered in the itinerary and in the in the baggage guidance.
The Way Back
The way back from Pompano Beach is set by daylight and water
Water landings run from 30 minutes after sunrise to 30 minutes before sunset, so nothing on floats arrives in the dark. That is the one hard edge on the day. It moves through the year, so the last useful departure comes with the quote rather than as a rule of thumb.
Beyond that the clock is yours. An evening return is a question of light rather than of anything else. A departure moved by weather runs under the weather and delays policy.
Departure Points
Departure Points for a Seaplane Miami to Pompano Beach
A seaplane needs no airport at the Miami end, so the departure point follows your morning rather than the aircraft. Two of these four put you on the water, two on a ramp.
Miami Seaplane Base
555 NE 15th St, Miami
The water departure, on Biscayne Bay just north of downtown. Boarding is from the dock, so nothing between the car and the aircraft looks like an airport. The shortest ground leg for Brickell, downtown and the beach and the usual choice when a yacht is the other half of the day.
Opa-locka Executive
Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport, OPF
The executive airport north west of the city, with private terminal handling at both ends of the day.
Miami Executive
Miami Executive Airport, TMB, Kendall
Kendall-Tamiami, in the south west of the county. When the aircraft for your date is already based at this field, the charter starts without a positioning leg. That matters most on a same day return, where an hour lost in Florida is an hour lost at the far end.
Miami International
Miami International Airport, MIA
A pickup rather than a base and the right one when the party is already landing at MIA and the onward leg should leave from the same airport. No aircraft is stationed here, so it is arranged per flight and confirmed with the operator before it is quoted.
How to Charter
How to Charter a Seaplane to Pompano Beach from Miami
Chartering a seaplane is not booking a seat. There are four steps, and only the first one is yours.
Plan Your Pompano Beach Charter- 01
Contact Us
Write to us on WhatsApp or by email. Send your dates, how many guests, where you are coming from and where you want to travel. Tell us the hour you would like to leave. A seaplane lands on water and on runways. Your pickup can be a marina, a hotel dock or a beach, and an airport works just as well.
- 02
Get Aircraft and Prices Back
We check what is free on your date and send the seaplanes that fit. Seats, baggage and flight time for each one. Every aircraft costs a little differently, so we can find the best fit for you.
- 03
Confirm and Pay
You pick the aircraft, and we set the pickup point and the landing site. Then everything around the flight. Catering on board, a car or a golf cart waiting when you land, ground transport to your hotel or back to the airport. Flowers if the day is a special one. You approve it, you pay, and your boarding time, departure point and everything included come back to you.
- 04
Just Arrive 30 Minutes Early
You will have no terminal and no queue. Just make sure you are there 30 minutes before. Then you take off, land right at your destination, and enjoy the day.
On the Ground
Where a Miami to Pompano Beach Seaplane Puts You Down
Pompano Beach is three miles of Atlantic shoreline with the Hillsboro Inlet at the top of it and the Intracoastal running behind. Everything below is within a short drive of the water, which is the whole reason an afternoon here works without a plan.
What follows is what parties actually do with the hours in between, in the order they ask for it.
Plan Your Pompano Beach CharterThe Snorkel Trail on the First Reef
Closest WaterMost come for the water first and here it is unusually close in. The first reef line lies roughly 400 feet off the beach in about ten feet of water, which puts it just beyond the swim buoys rather than a boat ride away.
On that first line sits a built snorkel trail: a replica Spanish wreck with cannon, an anchor and a ballast pile, laid out to be swum rather than dived. The usual entry is about a mile south of the pier. It is the one thing on this coast that a party with children and a party of confident swimmers can do at the same time.
Shipwreck Park and the Lady Luck
Divers OnlyFurther out the same coast turns serious. The Lady Luck is a 324 foot tanker sunk deliberately in July 2016 about a mile southeast of the Hillsboro Inlet as the centrepiece of an artificial reef park. She sits upright with the hull in around 120 feet of water and the top of her stack roughly 50 feet down, so the wreck reads as two different dives depending on what you are certified for.
This is the half of Pompano Beach that is worth building a whole day around and it is worth naming when you send the date, because a dive boat and a snorkel boat are not the same boat.
The Fisher Family Pier and the Fishing Village
A Short WalkThe pier is the landmark you will be pointed at. It runs 896 feet out from the beach, opened in its present form in May 2020 and the wide end is built in the shape of a pompano, which is the fish the city is named after. Around its foot sits the Fishing Village: the restaurants, the shops and the parking, all on the beach side of the road.
Guests who want a table rather than a boat book a fly and dine day and a party that fills the aircraft simply books the aircraft rather than a row of seats inside it, on one booking, whoever is travelling. Anything outside the usual list goes to custom requests.
Hillsboro Inlet and the Lighthouse
The LandmarkThe Hillsboro Inlet marks the north edge of the city and it is the gate between the Atlantic and the Intracoastal Waterway. Rock narrows the cut on both sides and the ebb runs hard through it, so the local boats time the run rather than simply making it.
The lighthouse standing over it has been lit since 1907. It throws about 5,500,000 candlepower and is visible some 28 nautical miles out, which makes it the most powerful light on the east coast of the United States. From the air it is the thing everybody photographs on the way in.
Offshore and the Charter Fleet
Fishing DaysIf the day is about fish, the inlet is the address. The sportfishing fleet keeps its berths on the inside of it, which is what a deep water gate this close to the beach buys a town.
Sailfish, mahi, kingfish and wahoo are the offshore names here and the quiet water behind the bridge fishes for snook and snapper on the same morning. Parties who want the flats rather than the blue water book bonefishing and flats access or a full fishing day by seaplane. Rods and gear travel, within the payload for the aircraft on the day.
Three Miles of Beach
The Simple VersionPlenty of these flights are booked for nothing more complicated than the beach. Pompano Beach carries about three miles of it, wide and public, with the pier roughly in the middle and the quieter sand spreading north toward the inlet.
That is the version of the day that needs no arrangement at all: land, a short drive and the afternoon is the water. Add water toys if the party wants to be on it rather than beside it, or a dock pickup if a boat is meeting you inside the inlet.
The Goodyear Blimp Base at the Airpark
Odd and LocalPompano Beach Airpark is also an airship base. Goodyear leases about 32.5 acres on the west side of the field and the hangar there runs to 45,000 square feet, the largest building on the airpark.
It is one of only three Goodyear airship bases in the country, which is a genuinely odd thing to have at the end of a beach town. If the blimp is on the ground it is visible from the air on the way in and it is the detail guests remember longest about the arrival.
Onward up and down the Coast
Same AircraftA private seaplane charter Miami to Pompano Beach also works as one leg rather than the whole day. The same aircraft carries on to Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, Palm Beach or West Palm Beach, all of them minutes apart on this coast. That is what turns one stop into island hopping or a wider Florida day.
South of Miami the same aircraft runs the Florida Keys and east of it the Bahamas. If a yacht is meeting you, the aircraft can set the party down alongside instead of at a pier. That is a yacht transfer and it is the reason a good number of these flights happen at all.
The full guide to the town sits on the Pompano Beach destination page, the packaged version is the Pompano Beach getaway day trip and the rest of the coast is on the Florida destinations page.

In Detail
Seaplane from Miami to Pompano Beach: The Coast, the Inlet and a Water Landing
Everything above is the day. What follows is the detail behind it: where the floats go down, what the water off this beach actually holds, where the coast carries on and what charter and private really change about a seaplane flight from Miami.
Seaplane Miami to Pompano Beach: Flying Low Over the Reef and the Flats
Room enough and a window each on a Pompano Beach seaplane
The crossing is not dead time between two airports. A seaplane runs low and slow, so the water under the wing is the first thing the day gives you. Pompano Beach lies about 33 statute miles up the coast from downtown Miami, just under 29 nautical. On floats that is roughly eleven minutes in the air. Guests who want a table rather than a boat book a fly and dine day and a party that fills the aircraft simply books the aircraft rather than a row of seats inside it, on one booking, whoever is travelling. What changes the day is that the first reef line sits roughly 400 feet off the beach in about ten feet of water, with a built snorkel trail on it laid out as a replica Spanish wreck. Charter the aircraft and it is yours alone: the crew and the day belong to your party. Every seat is a window seat on seaplanes in the fleet of this size, so nobody watches the crossing over someone's shoulder. Other seaplane routes from Miami fly the same way.
Seaplane to Pompano Beach from Miami: You Decide the Departure Time
Your hour, your names and a seaplane to Pompano Beach
Nobody hands you a timetable on a charter. The day is built around the hour you name. You name the hour you want to lift off, the hour you want to be standing on Pompano Beach and which water in the city suits your morning. The aircraft belongs to your party for the day, so all three are your decision rather than a departure somebody else set, and a change the week before is a message to us. If the drive is shorter the other way, the same day runs out of Fort Lauderdale. Half an hour before the lift-off is the whole of the check-in. Your party walks from the car to the aircraft, the bags go on in front of you, and the list for that flight carries your names and nobody else's. Nothing about the morning waits on a stranger. What is left is daylight, water state and the hour you want to be back. And the three quarters of an hour across is a reason in itself. The windows are deep and the aircraft crosses low, so there is room for everybody to sit and watch the water change instead of taking turns at one of them.
Miami to Pompano Beach Seaplane: Nothing to File, Nothing to Carry
No customs and no check-in desk on a Pompano Beach charter
A seaplane from Miami to Pompano Beach stays inside Florida, so there is no border to clear and no paperwork anybody has to file. The flight never leaves the country, so there is no declaration, no port of entry and no passport check at either end. Your party needs photo identification and nothing more. Everything around the flight is settled from our side before your party arrives, from the slot at both ends to the handling on the ramp. On a hop this short that matters more than it sounds: dive kit, boards and cases are the difference between one trip and two. The hold is yours too, so seaplanes in the fleet are matched to the load and up to nine seats travel on one booking. What may travel sits in the baggage guidance. A departure moved by weather runs under the weather and delays policy, and a name added or dropped before the flight is a message to us rather than a problem for you.
Seaplane Miami Pompano Beach: Milestone Days and Florida Weekends
A day trip, a weekend or something to celebrate on Pompano Beach
A private seaplane from Miami to Pompano Beach is booked when the day is worth marking: a birthday, a proposal, a graduation, a weekend away with the people who matter. The flight is short enough that the occasion, not the travelling, is what the day is about. That is what a seaplane Miami Pompano Beach charter is for. Say how many are swimming when you send the date and say whether anyone is diving rather than snorkelling. There is no terminal to walk through and no queue at either end, so the party stays together from the car to the cabin. Some parties fly over for the day and are home the same evening. Others stay on and book the return for the day they want. Both are the same charter, and the whole group travels together on one booking. If there is something to celebrate, say so when you book: catering, a private chef, premium beverages and flowers travel with you. Everything is in place before you board in Miami.
Questions
Seaplane from Miami to Pompano Beach: Questions Answered
How long is the flight from Miami to Pompano Beach?
About eleven minutes in the air. Pompano Beach lies roughly 33 statute miles up the coast from downtown Miami, just under 29 nautical. The whole of that is flown over water.
The exact block time depends on the aircraft and on which departure point you leave from, so it is confirmed with the boarding time before you book. What sets the length of the day is not the flight. It is how long the aircraft waits for you at the far end.
Can the seaplane come alongside a dock at Pompano Beach?
Often, yes. The Hillsboro Inlet joins the Atlantic to the Intracoastal at the north end of this stretch and the charter fleet keeps its berths here. Send the coordinates with the enquiry and the pilots decide whether they can put down there. Full names go in when you book, because a float aircraft is payload limited and the operator runs people, bags and fuel through a single calculation.
Where does a seaplane land at Pompano Beach?
On protected water agreed with the operator, or at the airpark on floats with wheels. The coast here has the Hillsboro Inlet at its north end joining the Atlantic to the Intracoastal Waterway, so there is sheltered water behind the beach.
The inlet itself is narrowed by rock on both sides and the ebb runs hard through the cut, which is why the set-down point is fixed in your itinerary rather than left to the morning. You are told where you are landing before anything is due.
Can you land at Pompano Beach Airpark instead of on the water?
Yes, on an amphibious aircraft. Pompano Beach Airpark has three paved runways, the longest 4,918 feet by 150, so a wheels arrival is a real option rather than a compromise. Wind and sea state decide which of the two makes sense on your morning and the call belongs to the operator. If the honest answer for your date is the runway, you hear it when the quote comes back, not at the slip.
Can you do Pompano Beach as a day trip from Miami?
Yes and it is the most common way parties do it. Eleven minutes up, the afternoon on the beach or in the water, home before dark, with the aircraft waiting rather than turning around. The only fixed edge on the day is daylight. That makes it one of the easiest days we fly to arrange at short notice.
How late can we fly back from Pompano Beach on the same day?
A seaplane needs daylight on the water. Landings run from 30 minutes after sunrise to 30 minutes before sunset, so the day has a hard end rather than an open one. Nothing closes before the light does. The window moves through the year, which is why the latest departure for your date comes with the quote. A return arriving after dark lands on a lit runway instead of on water.
How many people can fly to Pompano Beach on one charter?
Up to nine. The aircraft is chartered whole rather than sold by the seat, so your party travels together on one booking and comes home on the same aircraft. How many seats are usable on your date depends on the payload once baggage is aboard, so it is confirmed with the quote rather than promised in advance. Send the headcount and say whether children are travelling.
How much luggage can we take and can we bring dive gear?
Dive kit, rods and hard cases all travel regularly, within the payload for the aircraft on the day. The limit is a weight rather than a bag count, which is why bulky equipment is declared when you book rather than weighed at the dock: it comes out of the same payload the passengers do.
On a hop this short that is usually the only real constraint on the day, so it is worth being exact about it.
What happens if the weather stops the flight to Pompano Beach?
Water operations depend on wind and sea state as well as visibility, so a departure can move on a day that looks clear from the beach. Summer afternoons move return legs more often than mornings do.
On this route there is a second answer that an island crossing does not have: an amphibious aircraft can use the airpark runway when the water will not take it. The call belongs to the operator and you are told before you book how a moved departure is handled.
Is it worth flying from Miami to Pompano Beach rather than driving?
It depends entirely on the road. The drive is 36 miles and about 48 minutes with a clear run. That is the number the map gives you rather than the one the afternoon gives you. The flight is roughly eleven minutes over water with no traffic on it at all. Parties book it when the arrival time is the point: a boat sailing, a table held, a dive boat leaving the inlet.
What is there to do at Pompano Beach when we land?
Three miles of public beach, a reef about 400 feet offshore in around ten feet of water with a built snorkel trail on it. The Fisher Family Pier runs 896 feet out with the restaurants and shops of the Fishing Village at its foot.
North of that the Hillsboro Inlet carries the sportfishing fleet and the 1907 lighthouse above it. Say which of those the day is about and the ground arrangements come back with the quote.
Can we dive the Lady Luck on the same day we fly up?
Yes, if the day is planned around the boat rather than the flight. The Lady Luck is a 324 foot tanker sunk in July 2016 about a mile southeast of the Hillsboro Inlet, with the hull in around 120 feet of water and the top of her stack roughly 50 feet down.
That is a certified dive rather than a snorkel, so the shallow reef trail closer in is the version that works for a mixed party. Boats leave from inside the inlet, minutes from where you land.
What does a private seaplane charter from Miami to Pompano Beach cost?
A charter is priced as a whole aircraft, not per seat, so the number moves with three things: which aircraft flies your date, how many of you there are once bags are aboard and how long the aircraft waits for you. Tell us those and you get one all-in number, with the departure point, the boarding time and the hours at the far end it is based on, before anything is due.
Can I bring a pet on a seaplane charter?
Yes, pets travel in the cabin with you. The one thing we ask is that you tell us at the enquiry, with the type of animal and its weight, so the seating and the load plan are right from the start.
