Private Jet from Miami to Naples

Most parties come for the sand first, and in Naples it is part of the town rather than a drive away from it. About seven miles of white beach run along the whole front of the city, public for nearly all of that length. The Gulf in front of it is shallow, warm and usually much calmer than the Atlantic was that morning, which is the real difference between the two coasts. An afternoon here needs no planning at all. Both streets come into their own late in the day, when the heat goes out of the afternoon and the tables outside fill before sunset. Naples calls itself the golf capital of the world, and the title comes from arithmetic: more than 80 courses around the city, more per resident than almost anywhere in the United States. For a short visit that has one consequence. The best courses are private or semi-private and the season's tee times go long before the aircraft does, so a golf party fixes the course first and the flight around it. Not everybody has to play. The car that takes the golfers to the first tee can take the rest to Fifth Avenue South or the beach, and collect everyone for the flight home. Naples faces west, and that is the one thing Miami cannot give you. The sun sets over open Gulf water instead of behind a skyline, and on most evenings half the town walks down to the beach or the pier to watch it. It also sets the hour home. A party that wants the sunset from the sand flies home after it rather than before, which is a different booking from a morning out and an afternoon back. Both work, neither is assumed. The pier is the classic place to watch it, reaching about a thousand feet out over the water, and a table on the sand is the other. Book a sunset flight and the same light is seen from the air, and a milestone or a proposal is usually planned around exactly this hour.

South of the city the beach gives way to mangrove. Rookery Bay is a national estuarine research reserve of about 110,000 acres, one of the few mangrove estuaries in North America still largely undisturbed. Below it the coast splinters into the Ten Thousand Islands, a maze of mangrove keys and oyster bars running down towards the Everglades with hardly a road into it. It is water country, and it is seen from a boat. The boats leave from Naples Bay, a few minutes from the centre, and the car from the apron runs straight to the dock, so this is a day on the water rather than on the sand. Say so with the date, because it moves the hours ashore more than the flight.

If the day is about fish, this coast offers two different trips from the same harbour. Inshore, among the mangroves, it is snook, redfish and tarpon in season, all in flat water with land in sight. Offshore is the opposite direction, out across a shallow shelf that runs for miles before it drops away. Grouper and snapper come from there, and the run out is longer than on the Atlantic side, so a fishing day here starts early. Parties book flats access for the inshore half. A jet puts you at the dock when the boat is leaving rather than at the end of a drive, and rods and gear travel within the payload on the day. Say which of the two the day is about when you send the date, because the inshore and the offshore trip start at different hours and neither waits.

Marco Island lies about 35 minutes south by road, at the top of the Ten Thousand Islands, and it is the only one of them with a bridge, a beach front and hotels. That makes it the natural second stop on a Naples visit. It has its own field as well, so the same aircraft can take a party straight there on a private jet from Miami to Marco Island, and the two towns become one weekend by car.
